Photos The Day After the Storm
Beach and Dunes South of 48th Street
The dunes really got hammered. Without them the waves could have crossed over
the bulkhead into the streets and/or done direct damage to beachfront property.
As bad as the dunes look, only about 10-20% of their depth was compromised
and the height and width of the beach seems the same as always. What sand
was lost from the dunes must have been deposited right back onto the beach.

This was the extent of the storm damage at 48th street. Hardly any.

Much more severe erosion around 54th - 58th Streets.
Still, lots of beach remains intact. The beaches are still wide.
